Biography

Mr. Colet Odenigbo started his career in Juvenile Justice in 1992 as a volunteer for a Youth Violence Prevention Initiative in Detroit, Michigan. He enlisted into the United States Navy and served honorably for fourteen years. He earned a B.Sc., degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice from Alabama A&M University. Mr. Odenigbo also attended and graduated from Troy University with a master’s degree in public administration. Currently, Mr. Odenigbo is at the dissertation phase of completing a PhD in Public Administration from North Central University. He is a trained mediator, a Certified Court Administrator (CCE) and has completed his prerequisite for admission into the Institute of Court Managers (ICM) Fellows through National Center for State Courts.

In 1997, Mr. Odenigbo moved to Georgia and gained employment with Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice as a Juvenile Probation and Parole Specialist. After 3 years with DJJ and completing the Georgia Peace Officer Standard Training (POST) for juvenile correction, Mr. Odenigbo joined Dekalb County Juvenile Court as a Probation Officer. After six years with Juvenile Court, he left to run for elected office in the DeKalb school board and Georgia House of representative.  He had a stint with lecturing, when he became an adjunct Instructor with Voorhees University in Denmark South Carolina. In 2010, he received an appointment as a Special Adviser to Executive Governor in Nigeria and later served as Project Technical Adviser (PTA) to the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for four years. In 2016, Mr. Odenigbo returned to the United States and was appointed as the Chief of Staff to Dekalb Board of Commissioners District 3 for Commissioner Larry Johnson. A position he held until his appointment as the Dekalb County Juvenile Court Administrator in 2018. 

Mr. Odenigbo belongs to several professional and community organization and have received numerous awards and citations among which are Navy Meritorious Award for Volunteer Service, National Defense Medal, a Proclamation from the United States Congress, Proclamation from the Georgia House of Representatives, Proclamation from Dekalb County Board of Commissioners, Citation from the American Red Cross, the Chamber of Commerce, and many others. Under a congressional citation, July 13th is dedicated as Colet Odenigbo Day in the fourth Congressional District of Georgia. He is a life member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., A member of Georgia Council of Court Administrators, (GCCA), National Association of Court Managers (NACM) among others.

Under his leadership as the Court Administrator, Juvenile Court has seen tremendous growth in staff salaries, infrastructural development, improved employee retention, training opportunities for employees for professional development, staff readiness for industry challenges, increased community partnerships, improved relationship with the board of commissioners, access to program opportunities for the youth and overall favorable work environment for employees.
